Faizul Hasan, a third-year student of the Department of Political Science at Dhaka University in Bangladesh, said that he also takes help from AI in his academic studies. He says, ” Using AI, any information can be easily accessed and complex issues can be resolved.. It becomes easier to plan studies.”

Israt Jahan, a third-year student at the Disaster Management Institute of the same university, said, “Almost all the books taught at the university are written by foreign authors. The background is also foreign. AI helps me understand the curriculum topics from the perspective of Bangladesh. I take help from this technology to get an idea of what information to include in assignments or presentations. AI is also my “best home tutor” for exam preparation.”

Students say that, they can safely ask for help from platforms like ChatGPT, Gemini, or Microsoft Copilot. AI technology can easily do anything from translation to extracting the summary of a large article. All you need to do is know how to give appropriate ‘prompts’ or instructions. Faizul said, ‘AI is also very effective during exam preparation. You can get the necessary guidance and identify your own weaknesses.’

Teachers are saying about AI

It is now clear that there is no way to stop the use of AI in learning or teaching. But teachers and students believe that there should be clear guidelines on how and to what extent it should be used. Afnan Yusuf, a lecturer at Independent University Bangladesh, said, “If someone uses AI for their own development, then I will encourage it. AI can also be utilized in these tasks however like making some lower-level changes or rectifying some simple errors. But when I find myself overly relying on artificial intelligence to the extent of not flexing my creative muscles, it becomes critical to be careful.”

To apply for a scholarship or higher education abroad, one often has to submit an essay. If someone writes it through ChatGPT or any such platform, it will be caught. In that case, his application may be rejected at the beginning. In these cases, it is important to maintain one’s own identity. Therefore, many advise that one should continue practicing one’s creativity.

When talking to Swakkhar Shatabda, a teacher of computer science and engineering at BRAC University, Bangladesh, he said, “Teachers also use AI for various purposes. We mainly use AI in three areas—

  • Teaching, learning, and evaluation.
  • In creating lectures, adding graphics to lectures, or organizing lectures.
  • We also take help from AI when creating questions.”

Regarding the harmful aspects of AI, he said, “The purpose of assignments is to verify the level of writing skills by finding information. If someone uses AI just to find information, then there is no harm. But the practice of organizing and analyzing the writing has to be done by oneself. If AI is used in the analysis part, there is no way to properly verify the higher skills of students, such as critical thinking or creativity. The harm in this is mainly the students.”
